Casa Bombardà

Located in the Pontoncello intermunicipal park between Zevio and San Giovanni Lupatoto, Casa Bombardà is a building of historical value recently renovated and transformed into a tourist information centre to enhance the area and the cycle/hiking paths that are found around the park. The structure is part of the “Aquae Planae” ecomuseum project recognized by the Veneto region.

Casa Bombardà was not actually a house, but a hydraulic toll booth near the collecting canal, at the point where it flows into the Adige. Towards the end of the Second World War, more precisely, on April 26, 1945, German soldiers fleeing from the Americans barricaded themselves in the “house”. Around midday a firefight with the Americans began, who, to flush out the enemy, knocked down the building with cannon fire from 2 Sherman tanks.
